A unique, walker friendly outdoor stair-climb race, in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota offering two courses. A challenging 7 mile route with 5 stair climbs and 2 sizable hills. And a fun 3 mile route with 2 stair climbs. Both routes are walker friendly and offer stunning vistas.
Climb Hot Springs offers a 7-mile competitive outdoor stair climb race featuring five historic staircases and a 3-mile non-competitive fun run with two staircases. Both races are walker friendly and offer spectacular views of our beautiful town and surroundings. This is our third year.
In addition to the fabulous routes, you will get a long sleeve t-shirt, a finisher's medal, and a tasty lunch served by the Hot Springs Rotary Clubs.
Awards are overall male and female finishers for both races and the following 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place female and male finishers in the 7-mile race:
14 years & under
65 years & over
A fun and unique feature of our race is our special Turtle awards for the last finisher in each race. The Turtles have a special responsibility - carry the turtle flag and show it to each course coach so they know the last participant has passed. If a Turtle passes another participant in their race, they hand off the flag. It is a an important job. Our local Lakota friends and neighbors recognize the Turtle as a symbol of good health and long life. We love our Turtles!
Finally, you will have the satisfaction of contributing to local and global charities. This race directly benefits the local Rotary Clubs who support scholarships for Hot Springs High School graduates, community projects, and global efforts to promote peace, fight disease, and build healthy, thriving communities. Last year, we raised $1,000 for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and $2,000 for scholarships and the community band shelter in Centennial Park.
But wait, there's more! Plan to spend a little time enjoying our beautiful town and the spectacular Black Hills dressed in the colors of the changing season. A short drive from Hot Springs will take you to Mount Rushmore, Wind Cave National Park, Crazy Horse Memorial Carving, and many other special places. Or stay in town and enjoy dipping your toes in the warm waters of Fall River, jump into the soothing warm mineral waters of Evans Plunge, or visit the Mammoth Site.
We welcome you to our unique town in the heart of a magic place.
